NAWAZ SHARIF


Mian Nawaz Sharif (Born 25, December, 1949 – Lahore), former Prime Minister of Pakistan and the leader of Pakistan second largest political party, Pakistan Muslim League (N). Held the premiership twice, he is the eldest son of Late Mian Muhammad Sharif, who was one of the co-founding directors of Ittefaq Group of Industries.

Education


Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif completed primary education from Lahore’s St. Anthony’s High School and after getting graduated from Government College Lahore, was awarded Law Degree from Punjab University

Political History


Nawaz Sharif started getting trained in politics under the auspices of the Pakistan Army under General Zia Ul Haq. In Zia Ul Haq’s era, he was a part of the Punjab Government for a long time. He was part of the Provincial council after which in 1981 he served as Provincial Finance Minister for a long time. He was successful for bringing rural development to 70% of the development program. Along with this, he was also the Minister for Sports and restructured the provincial structure of Sports activities.
In 1985 Mian Nawaz Sharif gained victory with large majority in the non-party elections held under the dictatorship. He took the oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 9th of April in 1985. Though Zia Ul Haq dimissed the Junejo Government, but Nawaz Sharif was maintained as the caretaker Chief Minister. This fact indicated the close relationship between General Zia and Nawaz Sharif. General Zia also gave his life years as prayers to Nawaz Sharif.
When in 1988, General Jillani used the secret fund to perpetrate the defeat of People’s Party and distributed the amounts, Nawaz Sharif also took considerable advantage.
